Ballet Jörgen Canada
Ballet Jörgen Canada is a professional ballet company based in
Toronto, known for their unique, original ballets. They are the 5th largest
dance company in Canada, and the second largest in Ontario. The visionary
behind Ballet Jörgen Canada is Bengt Jörgen, artistic director,
choreographer, and CEO of the company. Bengt has created over 30 ballets
that have premiered nationally and internationally. Touring audiences
for Ballet Jörgen Canada are the second largest in the country with
50,000 to 60,000 patrons annually. Over a period of 40 weeks, the company
performs for audiences from coast to coast, and audience survey feedback
indicates that the approval rate is 99%. Ballet Jörgen Canada has
presented The Emperor’s New Clothes to over 2,500 school children
in Ontario and Halifax Nova Scotia.
Position: Festival Volunteers
Description: Ballet in the Park is a free outdoor performance
series that brings full scale ballet to two Toronto park locations. Volunteers
are required to help with directing audience traffic to performance areas,
selling water and merchandise, set up and tear down of our company information
booth, and collection of donations and audience surveys. The event is
held outdoors, weather permitting, and is a beautiful opportunity to experience
dance.
Dates: August 15, 16, 17 at Etienne Brule Park; August
21, 22, 23 at Earl Bales Park
Time commitment: For evening performances, volunteers are required one
hour before and after performances for a total of four hours. Dates that
include matinees can either be a four hour or eight hour call, depending
on availability.

The BIG Coalition: DIG IN's Culture
Works
We are located at Lansdowne & Bloor. BIG is organizing a street festival
with the arts component -- DIG IN's Culture Works.
Position: 1) Outreach; 2) Day-of Crew
Description: 1) door-to-door flyering; 2) set-up, tear-down
and runners

Time commitment: 1) flyering -- 4 hours prior to Saturday

Community Folk Art Council of Toronto
The Community Folk Art Council of Toronto (office location is 173B Front
Street East, St. Lawrence Neighbourhood) is a not-for-profit, charitable
organization, funded partially by the Toronto Arts Council, Social Development
Canada and the City of Toronto, presents the heritage of over 100 nationalities
found in Toronto. In coalition with its 91 member groups, CFAC showcases
international traditions through events like Canada Day Festivals, Christmas
and Easter Around the World, First Night and Taste of Toronto. The council
also brings groups from other nations to perform in Toronto, and sends
its own member groups to perform in places as far away as Taiwan. Through
its activities, the council helps to bring about a higher profile for
the heritage arts in the greater Toronto area.

The Cooking Fire Theatre Festival
A week-long out-door performance extravaganza celebrating theatre and
public space, held each June in Dufferin Grove Park in Toronto's west
end, and featuring original work by local, national and international
artist-run companies along with a meal.
Position: On-site volunteer during the week of the
festival
Description: Helping collect donations (the entire
event is pay-what-you-can), helping the staff set-up for the performance,
managing and directing the audience during the performances. The perks
are seeing the shows for free, and free soup and bread each night
Dates: June 18-22 (volunteers may come for any number
of the nights)
Time commitment: Volunteers required between 5:00 and
9:30 each night

Dancemakers and the Centre for Creation
Dancemakers is a professional contemporary dance company, located in
the Distillery Historic District, that brings to its audiences dance of
sophisticated physicality and emotional impact. Driven by a unique choreographic
vision, the company’s creations draw on the diverse talents and
individual strengths of its artists to develop and support works which
both provoke and entertain.
Dancemakers Centre for Creation is a place where creativity and creative
exchange are fostered and nurtured through programs such as residencies,
choreographic labs and master classes. It is a dynamic place of encounters
between artists and public where the perception of dance is enriched and
developed.
Dancemakers also rents space to artists and entertainers in the community
for performances and events
Position: Front of House Volunteers
Description: Assist with box office, ushering and bartending
as required for Dancemakers shows and events.
Dates: Various dates between September and April. Usually
Thurs, Fri, Sat evenings but some other weeknights and weekend afternoons.
Time commitment: Depends on how often you would like
to volunteer. Usually 3 hours minimum.

Dusk Dances
Located in Withrow Park, South of the Danforth between Logan and Carlaw
(closest TTC stop: Chester) Dusk Dances is an outdoor dance festival that
brings high quality contemporary and traditional dance to public parks.
Dusk Dances features an array of choreographic works presented every night
at sunset. As dusk descends, a theatrical host leads the audience -- which
invariably includes children, dog walkers and local residents -- to five
eclectic dance pieces that unfold in different areas of the park. Audiences
are invited on a pay-what-you-can basis to an innovative site-specific
festival, which is not only an artistic event but a social and cultural
one as well. 2008 will be Dusk Dances' 14th season. The 2008 Dusk Dances
festival will include Wedding Threads By Karen Kaeja, Blanche by Louis
Martin-Charest, an excerpt from Kaha:wi by Santee Smith, The Wishing Tree
by Sashar Zarif and Tap In by Meredith Thompson and Kate Franklin
Position: Dusk Dances is looking for six volunteers
for each night of the festival (36 volunteers in total).
Description: Positions include info table/concessions
person, dressing room security guard, and ushers. Volunteer duties would
also include program stuffing and nightly setup/teardown of info table
and signs.
Dates: Dusk Dances 2008 takes place nightly in Withrow
Park (south of the Danforth between Logan and Carlaw) from Tuesday August
12 – Sunday August 17.
Time commitment: The opening band starts at 7pm, and
the dance starts at 7:30pm. Volunteers would be required at the park at
5:30pm and would finish no later than 9:30pm.

Regent Park Film Festival: Call for Membership
to the Board of Directors
Created in 2003, Regent Park Film Festival (RPFF) is the sole community
film festival in Canada's largest and oldest inner city neighbourhood,
an area populated predominantly by new immigrants.
RPFF is a non-profit cultural, educational media arts organization dedicated
to disseminate films relevant to the communities living in Regent Park
with an emphasis on thought provoking films from or by our regions of
origin (First Nations, Africa, South Asia, East Asia and the Caribbean).
We organize an annual festival along with year-round school and community
screenings, panels of discussions, exhibitions and professional training.
The independent films we showcase in all genres, celebrate differences
and solidarity, media art literacy, immigrant experiences, redevelopment
and urbanization issues, inner city issues, cultural identity and multicultural
relationships. Films made in Regent Park, through Regent Park Focus Youth
Media Arts Center, are the center piece of the festival, supporting self-representation
and allowing for Regent Park's community's voice to be heard by a broader
audience.
We are currently looking for practicing media artists as well as other
individuals from diverse fields, such as design, industry, education,
law, fundraising, etc. for the Board of Directors. Board members typically
commit to joining a Board sub-committee, actively represent our organization
and should plan to attend approximately one meeting per month.
RPFF is committed to the principles of equity and diversity. Preference
will be given to, but not limited to residents of Regent Park.

Scarborough Chapter of Sweet Adelines
We are a 35 member chorus who sing Barbershop. Many of our members cannot
set up heavy equipment before and after practice. We meet every Wednesday
evening and need someone who is strong and can assemble our risers before
practice which is 7:00 p.m. and take them apart after practice which is
at 10:00 p.m. and move them to the storage area.
Position: Strong-abled person to move risers.
Description: We need someone to bring the risers out
of the storage room and assemble them prior to practice and return to
disassemble the risers and place them back in the storage room. The storage
room is beside the practice room, no stairs are involved.
Dates: Each and every Wednesday they would be required
at 6:45 p.m. and 9:55 p.m.
Time commitment: Each time involved is about 15 minutes
to assemble the risers and about 15 minutes to take them down and put
them away.

Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition
Now in its 47th year, the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition (TOAE) is a
juried showcase featuring contemporary fine art and craft that takes place
on Nathan Phillips Square every July. The largest outdoor art exhibition
in Canada, the TOAE offers a fresh-air alternative to conventional art
shows and galleries. Approximately 500 artists participate and over 100,000
visitors attend the exhibition every year. Side by side, established artists,
undiscovered talents and innovative students sell their work directly
to the public.
Position: TOAE has a variety of volunteer positions
available during the three days of the exhibition. These include working
at the registration desk, information and merchandise booths, security/
traffic monitoring and exhibition section rounds.
Description: The Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition would
not be possible without the generous help from numerous enthusiastic volunteers
who provide information and support both to exhibiting artists and to
visitors. For more information and a full description of volunteer positions,

Time commitment: Each volunteer shift is between 2 and
4 hours. Volunteers are welcome to sign up for as many shifts as they

Toronto Summer Music Festival
Toronto Summer Music provides music lovers with an opportunity to enjoy
and deepen their knowledge of classical music by bringing audiences together
with international artists and emerging professional musicians and singers
for a successful round of concerts, lectures and master classes. Toronto
Summer Music connects today's finest musicians to mentor younger artists
in the Academy program while at the same time providing audiences with
outstanding concerts of the highest calibre at the Festival.
Through their work with the Toronto Summer Music Academy & Festival,
volunteers receive the opportunity to broaden skills, network, observe
and participate in academy and festival planning activities, see high
quality performances, watch emerging professionals in training with resident
faculty and make an enormous contribution to the success of the Academy
and Festival.
Position: Various positions
Dates: July 22 – August 17, 2008
Time commitment: 4 hour shifts (minimum of 2 shifts)
